Admission

The Sikkim Institute of Higher Nyingma studies offers a nine (09) – year integrated course consisting of PurvaMadhyama –I and II (Classes IX and x)- 02 years ; Uttar Madhyama I & II (Classes XI & XII)- 02 years ; Shastri I, II and III (Graduation- 03 years ); and acharya I & II(Post graduation 02 years).Apart from these , there are a class called Selop I and II which prepare students for admission to PurvaMadhyama I Year.

The basic student intake level is class IX , that is PurvaMadhyama I Year . Students having passed class VIII from any government school or any other recognized institution with vernacular background (having ability to read and write the Bhutia/ Tibetan language) are granted admission to the Institute. Students having completed the course of any recognized Monastic school and possessing the recommendation of the respective authorized monk body / executive committee are granted admission here in Selop on a preferential basic to enable them to fulfill the requirement of passing class VIII to join the P.M – I class next year.

For granting admission to the Institute first preference is given to students having completed the course of various recognized monastic schools and possessing the recommendation of the respective monk body/executive committees.They are admitted in class SELOP to enable them to fulfill the requirement of going class Purva Madhyama I (Class IX).Besides them, students having passed Class 8 from any recognized educational institutions with a Tibetan/Bhutia Vernacular background are also admitted.The admission formalities are conduced through January and February every year,i.e. in the beginning of new academic session.All admitted candidates are necessarily bound by the rules and regulations of the Institute. They and their parents/guardians have to sign a declaration to this effect.

  • 5. Nyingma Philosophy or SampradayaShastra.
  • 6. Buddhist History/Buddhist Astrology.
  • In addition to the above,Environment Studies has also been introduced at the Shastri level from the year 2010 in accordance with the guidelines of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

Exam Schedule

The Students of the Institute have to sit for examinations twice a year. The first of this are held midsession while the annual University Examinations take place at the end of each academic session every year.It is interesting to note that the affiliating University has introduced a special academic session system for this Institute. The session starts in January and ends in December.
